Fox News contributor Emily Osterman has the scoop on the latest in the industry.
“If you want to make a living in fashion, you’re going to need to get out of fashion, and the reason you can’t do that is that fashion is an incredibly lucrative business,” Ostermann says.
“If you can make it in fashion you can actually make a good living in that industry, and it is.”
“You have to do it from the beginning,” Ostersman says.
So, what are you going to do once you’re in the game?
“You need to be the person that understands the business and has a plan and can execute that plan.
You’re not going to be an entrepreneur in your day job,” Ostsman says, noting that most of the designers that she interviewed for her book were in fashion.
She adds that you have to have a business plan, but you also need to understand your customers, and that can be a tricky task because they’re not really the ones that have to be in the know about what you’re selling.
What should you know about starting a fashion business?
Ostersmann says that you should look at a few things: what kind of products you want your brand to carry, and what your customer base wants from your brand.
For instance, if you’re a designer that’s looking for a new line of jeans or a new shoe, you might be best off starting with a pair of sneakers.
You should also be familiar with what your competitors are doing in the space.
This is the second book that Ostersmans book, “The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Designing Fashion: From Designing to Marketing and Beyond,” is based on.
In it, she talks about how to find your niche in the market, what brands she loves and hates, and how to develop her own brand.
It also discusses how to market yourself, which can be tricky when you’re starting out.
